Kale, Red Russian have large flat, tooth edge leaves with deep purple veins. Very tender and full of flavour to use raw in salads or cooked. Softer and sweeter than many other varieites. Excellent winter hardiness makes kale a useful winter to spring vegetable at a time when fresh garden produce is scarce. Undercover sowings in Autumn can extend the harvesting season.

Companion planting: Try growing kale with Nasturtiums to draw cabbage white butterflies away from your crop, and mint to help deter flea beetles.
